Rappahannock Electric Cooperative

Company Overview

REC is a member-owned utility that provides electric service to over 165,000 connections in portions of 22 Virginia counties. The Cooperative was formed in 1980 after the consolidation of two cooperatives, Virginia Electric Cooperative in Bowling Green and Northern Piedmont Electric Cooperative in Culpeper. The Cooperative's general office is in Spotsylvania County.

REC has a service area that spreads from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the tidal waters of the Chesapeake Bay. The Cooperative services a variety of residential, commercial and industrial accounts with a member base of homes, commercial developments, agricultural enterprises and manufacturing companies.

A board of directors, elected by the member-owners, guides the Cooperative. Members elect one director from each of the nine regions. Directors serve three-year terms.

Each August, REC holds an annual business meeting. The meeting provides member-owners the opportunity to meet the management of the Cooperative, review the annual report and elect directors. Members who do not attend the Annual Meeting may participate in the election process through the return of their proxy cards.
